We run this trip only in October for best sceneries. Outside the autumn months, it will be very hot and at other times, the scenery very green and not as pretty. Do take note that entrance fees in China are one of the highest in the World now. Estimate total is about Rm800 but members can opt not to enter to save on entry fees.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: This is meant to be a "free and easy" adventure trip. Participants should be relatively fit, with a good sense of humor, and above all, have the right attitude for close travel with others through possibly some trying times. Most definitely, this is not a trip for prudes, whiners, fuss-pots, and other similarly assorted types! We had a couple of those before and it wasn't pleasant for us or them. Although every effort will be made to stick to the given itinerary, ground conditions may change and cause some disruption and/or deviation from the norm. Otherwise, have fun.
Juyan Lake / Guaishulin Dead trees / Badain Jaran 4WD / Badain Jaran Dunes
This will be a backpack experience using local train, rental of 4WD vehicles and some chartered buses. We stay in mostly standard tourist class hotels except for 1 night in Badain Jaran Desert tents, where conditions are basic. Its quite important participants are able to manage their own luggage and backpacks are encouraged. Like most Yongo trips, you pay for your own meals and entrances.
DAY 1 KLIA2 to Xian. Gather KLIA2 by 3PM 8 OCT 2016 SAT for Airasia flight D7346 for 5hr flight to Xian departing 1815PM arriving 2315PM. Check in hotel. Overnight (ON) Xian.
DAY 2 Xian. We visit Xian Provincial Museum in the morning, and the Big Goose Pagoda and City Wall and the Bell and Drum Tower in the afternoon. Group will also eat at numerous local food place, most famous being Huiming Street. (Hui people). We transfer to Xian train station for our overnight train to Jiuquan. (ON Train-Soft Sleeper).
Day 3 Jiuquan. Arrive at Jiuquan in afternoon. Jiuquan has a long history and was established in Western Han Dynasty 2000 years ago.We visit Jiuquan Park whcih covers an area of 270,000 square meters. Within the Park is the Wine Spring of the Western Han Dynasty, a well-preserved classic garden with a history of over 2,000 years. The garden is elegant, unsophisticated and includes many water springs, a waving lake amongst vivid sculptures and exquisite palaces. (ON Jiuquan).
Day 4 Ejina. We travel by chartered bus 390km 6 hours to Ejina. On the way, we drive past Jiuquan Satelite Lunching Centre, which is the earliest and biggest space craft base in China. Only Chinese Naitonals are allowed to visit. We Visit the Black City and Guaishulin in the afternoon before arriving in Ejina Town. The Black City Ruins is world famous for being an important military pass, along the ancient Silk Road in Han, Tang, Western Xia and Yuan Dynasties. It is also a great place for sunset views of the desert. Guaishulin literally means 'Weird Poplar Forest', which is formed by numerous dead poplar trees. In recent years, many of the trees have died on both sides of the River Eljina, due to severe drought and environmental changes. leaving a beautiful yet sad landscapes. (ON Ejina).
Day 5 Ejina. A whole day is spent visiting the Poplar trees from Yidaoqiao (1st bridge) to Badaoqiao (8th Bridge). There is a famous Chinese saying - "Without going to Ejina, you will not know the might of the oasis. Without going to Ejina, you will not know the magic of poplar trees". While you are walking among the poplar forest, you view beautiful scenes one after another. In the sunlight, the golden poplar trees make a sharp contrast to the blue sky, a gorgeous sight indeed. Day 6 Alashan Youqi. Early morning start 1hr out to see sunrise at Juyan Lake. The Italian great traveller Marco Polo stopped here in 13th century and is mentioned in his book "Travels of Marco Polo". Time permitting, we visit the Shengshu (Holy Tree), the oldest poplar tree.Then it is another 5hr 400km drive to Alashan Yougi, a nice place with azure sky, blue lake and luzuriantly green trees. Day 7 Alxa/Badain Jaran Desert. After lunch, we bus 1hr to the entrance of Badain Jaran Desert. We chartered 4WD vehicles to travel 2.5hr into the centre of Badan Jilin Desert. This Desert Park covers an area of 49,000 sq km and is the highest and one of the most beautiful desert in the world covering a wide expanse of China's Inner Mongolia. The desert is also home to over 100 spring-fed lakes located among the high dunes, some of which are freshwater while others are saltish. We visit Bilutu Peak, the highest peak in the desert, also known as the "Desert Everest". Other places visited include the Lake and Temple in the desert. This place is also a place for good photos of the Milky Way. (ON Desert Tent).
ina Poplar Trees / Zhangye Danxia Coloured Hills / Desert Springs in Badain Jaran.
Day 8 Zhangye. After breakfast, we catch the sunrise in the desert and wander about the sands before heading out to our bus. After lunch, we continue our journey to Zhangye to visti the Colourful Mountains Danxia Scenic Area. At sunset, colours change continously, from yellow and red layers covered by a light gray layer. (ON Zhangye).
Day 9 Zhangye/ Lanzhou. We visit Zhangye Binggou Danxia Land Form in the morning. Geologist call it 'window latice and palace-shaped Danxia topography". After lunch, we travel by high speed train to Lanzhou.D2758 1224 1544hr. We visit the famous Lanzhou Iron Bridge and Yellow River Bend together with Water Wheel Park. We then transfer to Tianshui train Z152 1747 2209hr, (ON Tianshui).
Day 10 Tianshui. In the morning we visit Maijishan Grottoes, which is one of four most famous Buddhist Caves in China. All caves are dug into high steep cliffs which has a Eastern and Western part.. After lunch, visit Fuxi Temple, built during the Ming Dynasty, where locals pray for happiness and safety. We train to Xian after dinner at 1818 2231hr OR 1645 2100hr. (ON Xian).
Day 11 Xian / Lintong. Free and easy day until late afternoon drive 1hr 100km to Lintong, located at the foothills of Huashann. (ON Lintong)
Day 12 Huashan full day. A full day tour to Huashan, one of five scared mountains in China. Cable car rides available at own cost for members to go up and down Huashan. There are some scary climbs up chained platforms, for those who are more daring. We finish after 3PM and travel 2hr back to Xian for dinner. Transfer to airport is at 8PM for check in on Wed night 19 Oct 2016. (ON Plane).
Day 13 Home. Air Asia flight departs Xian on 20 Oct 2016 THU at 0015midnight arriving KLIA2 at 515AM THURSDAY MORNING.

- Guides accompanying group do expect tips. Yongo encourages group members to be generous but should commensurate with services rendered.
