Jeep / Chitkul Deluxe Tent

This was one of our earlier trips. The journey loops from Delhi up north to Manali then south to Shimla, passing through the Tibetan areas of Spiti, Lahuali and Kinnauur. Once over the high mountain passes, we stay in regular tents. We use jeeps to carry the gear. We also have a team to set up the camp, cook and clean. At Kalpa and Chitkul, we stayed in Deluxe Tents, with proper beds and even an attached bathroom tents with hot showers.

 
Ki Monastery Spiti 4116m / Kibber Village 4205m

Day 1 To Delhi: Left KLIA and arrived in Delhi in the late afternoon. Overnight (ON) Delhi.
Day 2 Delhi Tour: We bussed to Manali which was a long drive taking up most of the day. Overnight (ON) Manali
Day 3 Manali: We had a full day relaxing in Manali, visiting Solang Valley and village walks. The small town is also interesting with good shopping. ON Manali.
Day 4 Kaza: We began our jeep journey over the Rohtang Pass 3980m and the higher Kunzum Pass 4551m into the Tibetan town of Kaza. This area borders China's Tibet and was once part of the Greater Kingdom of Tibet. ON Camp Kaza.
Day 5 Tabo: From Kaza, we proceeded to the village of Kibber, reputed to be the second highest inhabitable village in the world. We also visited Kibber monastery 4116m sited majestically high up in the mountains. We then wnet to Dhankar monastery 3890m before finishing the day in Tabo. ON guesthouse Tabo.
Day 6 Tabo: Here we find the largest monastery in the area. Also known as the "Ajanta Caves of the Himalayas", the centuries old paintings rival those found in Dunhuang Grottos. The village of Tabo is also very vibrant with friendly locals working their fields of barley, potatoes and peas. ON guesthouse Tabo.
Day 7 Nako: We visit the well know Nako Lake. ON Camp Nako.

Day 8 Kalpa: We visit the ancient villages of Pangi, Telangi, Kothi & Recong-peo to explore their wooden houses, temples and monasteries. We also see the Mount Kinner Kailash 6050m, holy mountains of the Hindus and Tibetans. ON Kalpa Deluxe Camps.
Day 9 Chitkul: We move on to Chitkul. We visit apple orchards and still more cultural exposure. ON Chitkul Deluxe Camps.
Day 10 Chitkul: We relax at our campsite fronting the snow-capped mountains, apple orchards and high mountain villages. We walk up a nearby glacier and for those in better shape, were able to get to the upper reaches. ON Chitkul Deluxe Camps.
Day 11 Shimla: This was the summer retreat of the former masters of India i.e. the British. It's also a popular tourist destinations with many English-styled buildings. ON Shimla.
Day 12 Delhi: We boarded the poplular "toy" steam train to Kalka, then on to Delhi. ON Delhi.
Day 13 Agra: We moved on to Agra to see the world famous Taj Mahal and later the Red Fort. On Agra.
Day 14 Jaipur: We moved on to Jaipur, the pink city of Rajasthan. Its famous monument is the "Hawa Mahal" or the Palace of the Wind. ON Jaipur.
Day 15 Delhi: We go back to Delhi.
Day 16 Go Home: We spent a whole day free for shopping and sightseeing before our night flight home.
